Do You Need a 3 Day Liver Cleanse to Flush Out Toxins I How to do Liver Detox - Palak Notes

We put a lot of strain on our livers every day. We breathe in pollution outside and chemicals inside from our furniture, we eat pesticides and absorb toxins through our skins from the personal care products that we apply. All this and I haven’t mentioned drinking alcohol, eating processed sugary and fatty foods, and a lack of exercise.

Now, not all the above-mentioned things might apply to you, but over time, toxins can build up in our bodies and impact how well our livers function, even in healthy people though it is rarer. Usually, your liver, kidneys, skin, intestines, and lungs work together well enough to eliminate toxins on their own.

But if you find that you have picked up weight, are on any medication, or that you are a bit run down, you may need to do a liver cleanse.

How To Do A Liver Detox

First, you must understand that you are really just helping your liver and other organs to do what they are meant to do. By giving supportive nutrients to your body and not doing the things that harm your body is essentially what you are doing.

Liver Detox Do’s (Preferably Before You Even Start):

    high intensity interval training

    • Eat only organic produce and grass-fed meat.
    • Eat lots of vegetables, 80% of your plate should consist of vegetables.
    • Cut down on your intake of meat and dairy.
    • Increase your intake of water and herbal teas such as dandelion tea or milk thistle tea.
    • Cut out grains, junk food, processed food, sugar, alcohol, and coffee.
    • Exercise, make sure that you sweat for at least 10-20 minutes if you are doing high-intensity exercise or 30-60 minutes if you are doing moderate intensity exercise.
    • Make sure that you get sufficient sleep.
    • Get rid of toxins in your home and reduce your exposure to EMF radiation from electronics and cell phones.

      Liver Detox Don’ts:

      • Don’t start detoxing if you are constipated as the toxins will end up sitting in your gut.
      • Don’t fast or starve yourself, your body needs nutrients to be able to detox.
      • Don’t use harmful methods like juice cleanses, laxative teas, enemas, or master cleanses.
      • Don’t take medication unless it is absolutely necessary.
      • Don’t take more than the recommended dose of herbs and other helpful detox supplements.

        3 Day Liver Cleanse

Before you start your liver cleanse, as mentioned, if you have constipation, you should first sort that out. Eating more fiber-rich foods and drinking more water will help with that. Eating an anti-inflammatory diet and doing most of the tips regarding the liver detox do’s should suffice as preparation. A week or two of preparation before doing the cleanse should be fine.

You should include specific anti-inflammatory foods too such as turmeric, ginger, and rosemary. If you are struggling to eat enough vegetables, a smoothie or juice as a meal replacement can help. Learn how to make the perfect smoothie or juice here.

Including eating right and exercising follow the below tips for 3 days.

        Liver Cleanse:

        lemon and green tea

        • Lemon And Green Tea: Drink this first thing every morning. Green tea contains a little caffeine so you will still get a boost but it is gentle on the stomach. It also contains a powerful antioxidant called ECGC which protects against liver damage and is boosted by lemon juice. Green tea also detoxes the body.
        • Liver Tea: Some health shops might have a liver tea available. These teas are likely to contain herbs like dandelion, milk thistle, turmeric, ginger, and/or a couple of others that boost your liver health. You can drink 2 cups of this tea daily.
        • Swedish Bitters: If you have trouble with digesting food properly, Swedish bitters can really help. If you prefer not to use it you can drink 1-2 tablespoons of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar. It has a prebiotic effect meaning it feeds the good bacteria in your gut.
        • Eat Your Greens: Eat a lot of green veggies, dandelion greens, beet greens, broccoli, spinach, chard, arugula, watercress, pak choi, etc. They will stimulate digestion for maximum nutrient uptake and give your liver nutrients that it needs to get back to health.
        • Sauna: If possible, use a sauna each day. An infrared sauna will give you the most benefits as it works from the inside out, but a regular sauna can help too. You can even do your exercise in the sauna but stay well hydrated. Use a heat resistant water bottle.
        • Activated Charcoal: Take an activated charcoal supplement before exercise and using the sauna. This will help to bind the toxins that are released into your gut and safely carry them out when you use the bathroom. If you take it at other times, only use it between meals as it also absorbs nutrients that your body needs. You can also use spirulina or chlorella instead.
        • Glutathione Supplement: Glutathione helps to re-establish the detox pathways in the body. While you should eat sulfur-rich and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, kale, onion, cabbage, cauliflower) as they will also boost your glutathione levels. Broccoli sprouts is one of the best foods boost this nutrient but you may find that the supplement will benefit you too.
        • Probiotics: Probiotics are good bacteria. Either take a probiotic supplement with as many strains as possible or eat probiotic foods like miso, kimchi, kombucha, or sauerkraut. This will help your gut to get rid of the bad bacteria, improve digestion, boost your overall health, and improve your digestion.
        • Meditate: Stress, unforgiveness, frustration, and general unhappiness takes a toll on your body. These negative emotions increase inflammation in your body and over time can hamper your liver function. Meditation is a good place to start. But relax, walk or have a picnic in nature, make amends, or learn to let go. This may take time, but it is a start.

Things To Keep In Mind When Considering A Liver Detox

          drink lots of water

          • Important: A 3 day cleanse will likely only help if you are already fairly healthy and just need that something extra to get rid of toxins from products that you use, even medications like contraceptive pills can cause your liver not to function as well and unfortunately pollution is all around us.
          • You May Need A Longer Detox: A longer detox might be necessary, particularly if you have been living an unhealthy lifestyle. 5-10 days will be beneficial.
          • Serious Detox Concerns: If you have a medical condition that impairs your liver function or if you have been exposed to extremely high levels of heavy metals or asbestos, you will benefit more from a major detox protocol. In the case of heavy metals, chelation therapy might be recommended. Major detox protocols are usually medically supervised.
          • Spring: You may find that when you do a longer detox that spring is the best time to do it as your body is more ready for change then.
          • Take Time Out: Do the detox when you have time to be fully present, de-stress, and make healthy choices.
          • Live Healthily: The liver is so important, keep it healthy. Keep alcohol to a minimum, cut out processed foods or limit them, quit smoking, eat a variety of healthy foods, drink more water, and exercise regularly. Following a mostly alkaline diet will do your body a world of good as will getting enough good quality sleep.
